I remember going to Shimersville several years ago for a Useless contest
and the place was set up to give all the riders a lot more room and some really good
lines. Jay Miron got a cover shot for ride magazine at the park- it was that good.
When the park was rearranged and rebuilt they took away the riders ability to
maintain speed after hitting the box jump. So you would ride at either of two
quarters- get as high as you could- hit the box jump- THEN STOP... You would
have to turn around and start all over again... There were NO lines after hitting
the box jump. That took away from a lot of riders being creative. Despite a very
tight street course the mini ramp was well loved by those that weren't intimidated by the
6 foot spine and some good video is HERE of people on the mini. The winners of the
street contest were the ones who put the mini to the best use in the expert street class.
For the beginners and intermediates it was those who could manage to go highest and
throw in a few variations on the box jump. There is some good pics. as well as some
video of that HERE.
VERT- Vert had a total of four riders in it- Two intermediates, two
experts. I thought that there were more vert riders... I missed the WHOLE vert
contest. It only took about ten minutes for them all to ride.
PRIZES- Okay, I probably won't talk about prizes for most of these articles but
it should be noted that besides really nice pad sets and some decent equipment and videos
being given away to the top three places- THE TOP RIDERS WERE GETTING A WEEK AT
WOODWARD- That is like a $600.00 prize. I was kind of bummed they didn't have
a beginner flatland class I could have entered (ha!) Check out the pics. and the
results and let me know what you think of the story or if there is anything else I should
add! ~P~
