To do a dump truck you should first learn how to scuff and balance a stick-bitch. The dump truck is the name of the complete trick that is done when you ROLL into a stick-b.

The trick falls a little further down the list of difficulty because you have to combine many different tricks to even ride in- Wheelies, Coasting, Scuffing- They all combine to make this trick very difficult at the beginning to learn. After you learn the trick you will find that they are not to difficult to do and are very fun!

  • Begin by riding at a slow/medium pace with both feet on the rear pegs and your handlebars turned around backwards.
  • Lift the front wheel and do a dork wheelie, this is a wheelie while standing on the pegs. Take your right foot off the peg to help you balance.
  • When you are comfortable with the wheelie, pull the bike up high enough so that you can grab the right fork blade, just below the brakes.
  • Possibly the hardest part of the trick is this: Twist the handlebars about 90-degrees and pull the bike vertical on the right side of your body. Bring your right foot from behind you (where it was helping you balance) and put it on the FRONT side of the back tire. There are times when you will fall backward or forward before you get your foot in place on the tire.
  • As with other tricks you should have learned how to scuff and control this trick before you learn to ride in. Now you have the bike upright beside you and should scuff the back tire with your right foot in circles to your right (clockwise). Lean the bike away and closer to you to help maintain your balance.
  • To ride out, grab the left fork blade with your left hand and reach back with your right hand to the brake lever. Grab the brakes and (without YOU falling forwards) let the bike fall forwards to the ground while untwisting your handlebars and grabbing your left grip with your left hand.
  • Pull your right leg over the top tube, step to the pedals, and ride away!

If you think this trick is tough to learn then you are just beginning to understand what flatland is all about! If it was FUN to learn then you've got the right idea. It is possible to do many different combinations into and out of the stick-b. Since the bike itself is in a pretty awkward position the tricks used to ride in and out are usually more difficult.

Keep in mind that you can use EITHER foot to scuff the back wheel if you want to, as well as it is possible to do the trick on either side of the bike, scuffing or even COASTING. Which makes it that much more linkable to other tricks. One of the coolest ways I have ever seen into this trick was a finger flip into it- That is, the person was riding with the bike in a dork wheelie, grabbed the head tube and spun the BIKE 360-degrees on the back wheel underneath of him and landed in a stick-b… WHOA!

Keep trying and don't get frustrated if it takes a while to learn!

FAQ: What the heck is scuffing?

A: Scuffing is the process of shuffling your foot along either the front or the back tire while the other tire is off of the ground to control the bike. You push forward with your foot to keep the bike rolling forward, then you draw your foot backwards up the tire to keep the bike from falling backwards. In a nutshell you are typically falling backward (right after a push) or you are falling forward (while drawing your foot back). You scuff zillions of tricks including freak squeaks, dump trucks, e-squeaks, elephant glides, and gerators.
