| To call a smoothie a trick by itself is not really true.
Smoothies are used to get out of tricks where you are rolling forwards on the front wheel
with the frame in front of you. Tricks like Steamrollers, Funky
Chickens, and Half-Lashes can all be ridden out of by doing a Smoothie. Smoothies are
one of the key basics to riding out of tricks and a great way to help learn whiplashes. This description is of how to do a Half-Lash to a Smoothie.

Begin by rolling at a medium/slow speed with your left foot on the front left peg and
your right foot on the right rear peg. As with a whiplash lean weave slightly to the right then as
you lean to the left throw your weight forward and kick the frame around like you are
doing a tailwhip or a whiplash- NO BRAKES!!! When the frame is in front of you let the rear wheel fall to the ground and roll forward
balancing. It is possible to spend a few hours just learning to coast with the frame in
front of you so that you are comfortable with it. To do the Smoothie- Gradually let the rear wheel pivot to your right (you are facing the
rear wheel in front of you). When you can reach the frame, put your right foot on the intersection of the top tube
and the seatpost tube. Continue to let the frame pivot around until it has come all the way back around
underneath of you. NOTE: Your right foot doesn't just have to 'rest' on the top tube. You can use it to
force the frame to come under you a little quicker if necessary. Or you can make it slow
down how quickly the frame is pivoting underneath of you. Use it for control! Step to the pedal and ride away. This trick is not very difficult. It does take some time to learn how to control the
bike while travelling forward standing on the front peg with the back wheel in front of
you. Smoothies themselves mainly require your weight to be centered over the bike so that
it does not fall forward or backward. |
