This is one of the coolest LOOKING easy tricks to do.  It is not completely easy or else it would have been up at the top of the list with barspins...   But to do this trick you just need to be comfortable with your bike and have a set of handlebars that aren't OVERLY narrow to stick your foot into.

  • Begin by rolling at a medium speed-  This is a common mistake for people- like riding with no hands- it is EASIER to go faster... but scarier.
  • You should be riding normally standing on the pedals.
  • DEPENDING ON YOUR RIDING STANCE (get on a skateboard to figure this out) Put one foot on top of the seat.  -  This trick will be DESCRIBED with the right foot on the seat- but you can do it either way.
  • Okay- with your right foot on the seat put all your weight on that foot.  Continue to leave your hands on the grips steering normally.
  • Now lift your other foot (your left foot) and put it on the handlebars.  Put it SIDEWAYS on the bars.  So that your heel is pointed towards one lever and your toes are pointed to the other.  If your bars are to narrow then it will make this almost impossible and you may not be able to learn this trick.
  • Stand up!
  • Okay- it's not that easy-  All your weight should slowly be transferred to the feet you have on the seat and handlebars.  Because your hands are right near the grips and are steering you SHOULD take some time to get used to standing with one foot on the bars and the other on the seat.
  • Take your hands an inch or so away from the bars and try to balance- steer with the foot on the handlebars!  THAT is the hard part.
  • When you can roll 20 or so feet with your hands CLOSE to the bars stand up all the way.   It is actually easier to balance standing nearly straight up-  Keep your knees bent!!! - then it is to balance hunched over the bike.
  • Why?  Because you are more stable standing up!  So your foot on the bars doesn't move around as much.
  • To ride out reach down and grab the handlebars with your hands then step down to the pedals and ride away!

Okay- I don't really know any tricks you can do into and out of surfers.  I HAVE seen people put their foot on the platform of their bike then step up to the seat...   as well as step from a surfer straight into a bar ride.  But this is NOT easy.   Another variation of surfers is to learn to lean forward and balance ALL of your weight on your foot on the handlebars...  This is called a scurfer!

But it gets a lot harder when you start taking feet off.
