4/2/99- Ever wonder why this stuff happens...

Practicing at the local school- cross-handed steamroller to barflip... miss the peg and land sideways on my ankle. One doctor visit later reveals a sprained ankle. Three weeks prior to the contest... Keeping my fingers crossed that I can compete... or at least ride.

4/14/99- Day before taxes are due... things are confirmed that I will be driving to KY with one other person. We are leaving next Wednesday (04/21/99) at about 2:00... it's about a 9 hour drive so we should arrive before midnight.  Josh will be competing in the amateur class for flatland. When we get there we will stay at the Super 8 at the airport. Meeting up with a group of about 5 people from Chicago to help get the hotel costs down- need the $$$ to buy parts!

4/19/99- A little bit of web work has determined that another person MAY be driving to KY with us.  Chris joined me and Josh for the trip-

4/21/99- RAIN... Left house at about 3:00 for the drive. LOUISVILLE HERE WE COME...

There is something about going to contests that is just exciting. I was stoked to get back out to another 'real' contest after going to so many of the local comps and finding that flatland just wasn't going to happen and that there was a limited show up or a crappy area. I felt the word of the weekend was just going to have to be AWESOME. Just everything that was happening was going the right way- people showed up at decent times and everyone was psyched. After about ten hours on the road I determined that Josh King (expert flatland) is NOT the quietest person on the face of the earth... but Chris, who joined us on the trip, is even MORE quiet. I was bummed that the CD player broke about an hour into the trip.

We rolled into the hotel at about 1:00AM and got the room that you always hope for- First floor, as far from the main hotel entrance as possible. Right near the back door. Seeing as how another group of people was expected to join us it was the prime spot. Room was a little small- but we crashed right away and had the wake up call for 8:00 the next morning.
